Contentment and Ambition: The Dual Mindset of Successful Leaders

A note to young leaders.
Breaking bread with a young leader on Friday night. “Sometimes I feel so grateful and contented as though I want for
nothing. And yet at the same time, I’m so ambitious, I feel what I have
today is so little”, he remarked, as though puzzled by the contradiction.

“Precisely”, I assured him. “That’s how progress is made. One foot on the ground, one foot in the air.”
Contentment and ambition are not foes, but friends. The world teaches “contentment or ambition” but the wise choose both: “contentment and ambition”.

One foot in foundation, the other in propulsion.
