A Note to Young Leaders: Business Simplified—Product and Sales

Notes to Young Leaders | 6 March 2024

A note to young leaders. Business is not that complicated.

When you boil it all down, you only need two things:

  1. A great product/service that solves a real world problem; and
  2. A great way to make it known to your target market.

If your business is not succeeding, you are failing at one or both of those things. And to know where your focus should be, look no further than the humble sales funnel.

If your sales funnel is teeming with leads but you are closing very few deals, your focus should be on product development. You need to make your customer value proposition more compelling.

If you have too few leads, your focus should be on marketing, PR and sales out-reach programs.

Product and sales. It really is that simple.

That’s why all successful CEO’s are either brilliant product engineers or rainmakers, and – if you should be so lucky – both.
