Lead Happy: The First Commandment for Leaders

Notes to Young Leaders | 23 February 2024

The first commandment of any leader is to: “Make yourself happy”.

An unhappy leader may still be effective but their impact on others is less than ideal. It’s impossible for them to lead with humour, enthusiasm or optimism.

Note, I’m not asking you to “be happy”, I’m calling on you to “make yourself happy”.

Happiness is a habit to be practised, not some passive serendipity of time and space.

Each day is a blank canvass. Wake and say: “This day is full of awesome potential, I will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Give each day the opportunity to become the most beautiful day of your life.
