Expand the Lake Within

Notes to Young Leaders | 3 March 2025

A note to young leaders.

Are your problems causing you stress?

A young man once visited a Hindu sage and shared with him a problem that’s disturbing him greatly.

The sage listened patiently, then took a tablespoon of salt and stirred into a cup of water. “Drink this. What does it taste like?”

The young man sipped and spat it out. “It’s too salty!”

The sage then led him to a vast lake and had him toss a tablespoon of salt into it. “Now drink,” he instructed.

The young man drank and found the water refreshing. “Did it taste salty?” asked the sage. “Not at all,” the young man replied.

“Everyone is dealing with the same amount of salt. The problem is not the salt, the problem is the receptacle.”

Expand your perspective and the problem disappears.
