Are You Interested—Or Obsessed?
A note to young leaders.
Do you enjoy your work, do you find it interesting, or are you obsessed about being the best in the world at it?
Tim Grover – the founder of Attack Athletics and former personal trainer to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant – often begins his business presentations this way:
“If you’re interested in taking your business to the next level, please stand up.”
Virtually everyone stands up. Then Grover asks them to sit down and asks:
“If you’re obsessed with taking your business to the next level, please stand up.”
Virtually everyone stands up.
“Which one is it? Are you interested or obsessed? You can’t be both interested and obsessed. Interested is a hobby. Kobe Bryant wasn’t interested in winning championships, he was obsessed. Obsession is in the thousand small details that very few people pay attention to.”
Interested people watch obsessed people change the world.
