Don’t Be the Dead Sea—Flow

Notes to Young Leaders | 16 August 2024

If you live your life chiefly for selfish ends, the best you can hope for is the cheap thrill of impressing others.

And if impressing others is your chief aim – you live with ghosts, and box with shadows. You are a hostage of your own imaginings of other people’s imaginings of you.

The only life worth living is a life that pours itself into others. We are made for pouring, not for storing.

The Dead Sea is dead because it has no outlets. It keeps all the waters it receives. The Dead Sea is a hoarder.

Since there’s no outlet, the water of the Dead Sea evaporates, leaving behind toxic levels of salinity.

Don’t live your life self-contained.

Open yourself to multiple inlets and multiple outlets.

Give and receive. Teach and be taught. Mentor and be mentored. Flow.
