Keep Walking: Leadership Isn’t Mastered, It’s Earned

A note to young leaders.

I was asked at a Christmas function recently, by a regular reader of my blog: “So, do you think you’re a great leader?”

I was slightly taken aback by the question, so I paused and smiled to collect my thoughts:

“You’ll have to ask the people I work with that question. Leadership is hard. What I can say for sure, is that I’m better at it today than I was ten years ago.”

Authors and speakers are rarely those who’ve scaled the summit – they’re merely the ones who have paused long enough to admire the view. And that can happen at any elevation.

Leadership is hard. It’s ok to suck at it, provided you’re making sincere efforts to improve.

Fix your eyes on the summit and keep walking.
