Leadership Growth Through Meaningful Resistance

Notes to Young Leaders | 15 December 2023

A note to young leaders.

In the beginning was the verb, and the verb was “grow”.

And growth requires resistance. How else do you build muscle if not by lifting weights?

Growth is meaningful resistance against one or more of the “three great adversaries”:
1. our own frailties and insecurities;
2. the trials and tribulations that eventually befall us all; and
3. people we encounter who have an agenda that’s different to our own.

Learn to welcome the three great adversaries into your life. They are the gymnasium of your soul.

And how do you make resistance “meaningful”?

By resisting with a clear and principled objective in mind.
