Run Fast, But Keep Your Inner Torch Burning Bright
Run as fast as you can, but never at the expense of extinguishing your inner light.
In Ancient Greece, they had a competition called the torch race. It was called the Lampadedromia or Lampas. It is what it sounds like – a race, with a torch.
Coming in first was important, of course, but you only won if your torch was still burning when you crossed the finish line. If your torch went out, you were immediately disqualified.
We all have an inner light and joy, a “twinkle in our eyes”.
It’s what makes us skip rather than walk; laugh rather than get offended; sing in the rain rather than complain.
Success is not success, if you lose that inner flame.
What’s the point of wealth or fame or power if you can no longer delight in the beauty of a butterfly or a sunset or a Shakespearean sonnet?
No amount of money can compensate you for that.
Protect your inner flame as though your life depends on it – because, it does. Cross the finish line with your torch burning bright.
