Why Great Leaders Support Their Team Before They Fall

Lessons from my father.
My father once invited a work colleague over to our house for a BBQ. This was a relatively rare occurrence so I asked him why. This is what he said:

“He’s going through a tough time. As a leader, if you find someone in your team who is wobbling in their saddle, go over and support them.

Because if they fall off, it will take ten times the effort to get them back in the saddle; and you may now be dealing with a serious injury; and you may not even be able to help them on your own.

Keeping people in their saddle is a lot better than helping them when they fall.”

Leaders are proactive. They don’t wait for people to fall before they rush to their aid.

If you see someone struggling, lift them before they fall.
