89 Seconds to Midnight: The Race That Really Matters
A note to young leaders.
The only race the human race should be focused on is the race between our power and our wisdom.
Right now, power holds a commanding lead.
The Doomsday Clock is a gauge that measures how close humanity is to global catastrophe – mainly from technologies such as nuclear weapons, artificial intelligence and genetic engineering.
Today, the clock stands at 89 seconds to midnight, the closest it’s been since its creation in 1947. For context, even during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the clock stood at 7 minutes to midnight.
We can debate what the precise time on the Clock should be – but we can all at least agree it’s uncomfortably close to midnight.
The race is on – and we have at best 50 years to close the gap between our technological prowess and our collective wisdom.
The future of human civilisation depends on it.
It falls for a new generation of leaders to shift our collective consciousness – by leading with courage, compassion and moral clarity.
That’s why I started this blog. I’m betting that you can do it.
