
Aligning Dreams with KPIs
A note to young leaders.
People aren’t mathematical problems to be solved.
The overwhelming majority of people turn up to work each day wanting to make a positive difference.
So why do half of us report feeling frustrated and unfulfilled?
Because we, as leaders, haven’t yet figured out a way to make the problem we want to solve, the problem they want to solve.
First, take the time to find out the individual goals and dreams of each and every member of your team.
Find out, don’t assume. A rookie error I made as a young leader is that I assumed that everyone had similar goals and dreams to me.
Then, align individual goals with company goals: “if we reach this KPI, then we will make sure that you get a step closer to your dream.” P.S. It’s not always about money.
Aligning job performance with individual dreams in this way will unleash tremendous energy in 2024. Give it a try.
