Life and Business Are Cycles: Embrace the Sinusoidal Rhythm

A note to young leaders.

My father would often say to me: “Remember, life is sinusoidal. It’s a wave, not a straight line.”

I’ve forgotten the number of times dad said that to me. The count must run in the hundreds.

Life is seasonal, business is cyclical. Once you understand that “to all things there is a season”, life and business become a lot easier.

You don’t get too high in the highs and you don’t get too low in the lows.

In life, equanimity in success and failure – treat those two impostors just the same.

In business, be courageous when the herd is fearful and cautious when the herd is reckless.

It takes years to master – but, I promise you, this one practice alone will go a long way to making you happy, wealthy and wise.
