Ask the Right Question

Notes to Young Leaders | 7 February 2025

A note to young leaders.

“Why is this happening to me?”

We all, at some stage, ask ourselves this question – but, sadly, only when things go wrong. (Why is that?)

The beginning of wisdom is when you stop asking: “WHY is this happening to me?” and start asking: “Why is this happening to ME?”

If you ask the wrong question, you’ll get the wrong answer every time.

The right question is: “What’s this situation trying to teach me?”

The universe is alive and it’s interacting with you. It’s continuously giving you feedback. It’s talking to you about your strengths and blind spots, drawing you closer to your calling.

Be still. Listen. Learn. Adapt.

Your past does not limit or define you. It’s a finger pointing to your future.

Don’t fix your gaze on the finger, fix your gaze on the future.
