Choose Your Leader Wisely for Career Success

Notes to Young Leaders | 23 August 2021

To those setting out to build a brilliant career.

Who you accept as your leader is the single most important career decision you will make.

Insist on reporting to a leader, not a manager. You want to be inspired, not manipulated.

Does your leader see great potential in you? If not, have the self-belief to insist on reporting to someone else.

Does your leader care enough to give you intelligent, honest and constructive feedback on a regular basis? If not, have the ambition to insist on reporting to someone else.

You must choose your leader.

Never allow anyone else to make that decision for you.
