Every Act of Kindness Counts

Notes to Young Leaders | 30 January 2026

A note to young leaders.

An old man was walking along a beach in the morning after a storm. The tide had left thousands of starfish stranded across the sand.

Up ahead, he noticed a little boy bending down, picking up a starfish, and tossing it back into the receding water.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m throwing the starfish back into the sea. If they stay here, they’ll dry out and die.”

The man gestured down the shoreline. “But there are thousands of them. What difference does it make?”

The boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the ocean: “It made a difference to that one.”

Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are.
