Stay Curious: The Secret to Lifelong Youth in Leadership

Notes to Young Leaders | 11 December 2023

A note to young leaders.

Surround yourself with curious people. They are constantly experimenting and searching for a better way of doing things.

Avoid the company of those with a fixed mindset. They will eventually make you dull and ordinary.

The astonishingly creative pop musician, Prince, once confided: “I don’t talk to old people; they try to find ways to stay static. Young folk are the ones with the ideas and constantly moving forward.”

But, Prince take note, age is not chronology. Age is the loss of curiosity.

You are old only to the extent that the new no longer interests you.

And you are young, regardless of age, if you are keen to give space travel a try or to learn pottery for the first time or if you find yourself saying “yes” to attending a concert by a new, exciting rock band.

So go on, stay open to the possibility that the new may be better than the old, say “yes” to the future.
