The Hazards of Hypocrisy in Leadership
We are shaped by our mentors and I was blessed with one of the best in John R Caldon, former Deputy MD of Macquarie Group.
Leadership confers powers and privileges but John was acutely aware of the hazards of hypocrisy.
If, in the course of discussing the performance of a team member, we dwelt too long on the negatives, he would invariably end the discussion by saying: “Well, thank goodness you and I are perfect, Adam.”
Easier to pick out the stick in someone else’s eye than the log in your own.
