The True Meaning of Leadership Passion: Willingness to Sacrifice
A note to young leaders.
All great leaders are passionate.
Sadly, “passionate” is a word that has lost its bite over the years. It’s come to mean “ardent emotion or motivation”.
But passion derives from the Latin verb “patior” meaning “to suffer”. That’s why Jesus’ death is often called “The Passion of Christ”.
In other words, people who are passionate about a cause or a mission are willing to suffer for it.
Leaders must be willing to pay a price to see their ideas come to fruition. And for those who are truly passionate, even the struggle is enjoyable – they count it all joy.
What cross are you willing to bear to see your vision become a reality? Do you care so deeply about your mission, that you’ll gladly sacrifice for it?
Not to sacrifice is misery. Misery indeed, not to have anything worth sacrificing for.
