Urgency Without Haste: A Leadership Lesson
A note to young leaders.
Act always with urgency but never with haste.
What’s the difference? Haste has an element of panic about it. And panic is never helpful to sound decision-making.
It’s a curious fact that nowhere in the Christian scriptures is Jesus ever recorded as running. Jesus walked everywhere he went. He walked briskly, I imagine, but never ran.
Even when his best friend, Lazarus, was on his deathbed and Lazarus’ family was calling for Jesus to urgently visit, Jesus finishes what he is doing and then walks to Bethany.
When it comes to major decisions: walk briskly, don’t run. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
