Why the Wise Travel Slowly

Notes to Young Leaders | 27 October 2025

A note to young leaders.

A young man once came to a sage and asked: “If I study all day and night, how long will it take me to attain enlightenment?”

“Ten years,” replied the sage.

The young man was startled. “Why so long?” he asked.

“Forgive me, my mistake. It will take you twenty years.”

“Twenty?” Cried the young man. “Why did you double it?”

“Apologies, come to think of it, in your case, probably thirty years.”

Wisdom is not a destination – it’s the way you travel.

Slow down. You’ll get there faster.
