Back Yourself: The Champion’s Mindset

Notes to Young Leaders | 23 August 2024

In the crucible of competition, there is no substitute for self-belief.

Here’s what the legendary Indian batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, once said when asked in an interview what advice he gave to his team mates in the middle:

“When I’m batting, I don’t give my team mates any advice on technique. It’s too late for that, and it only confuses them.”

“I try instead to give them self-belief. I remind them, when you look up the other end and see the bowler, you need to believe you’re better than them. You’ve done the hard work – you’re ready for and equal to anything they can throw at you.”

Champions don’t endure a challenge, they relish it. To enjoy competition is to believe in yourself.
Back yourself.

Believe.
