Embrace the Curves of Life

Lessons from my Father | 17 June 2022

A note to young leaders.

The human mind has a tendency to think in straight lines.

This is why pundits so frequently get it wrong when they forecast the future by extrapolating the recent past.

And yet the universe leaves us clues everywhere as to its underlying blueprint.

“There are no straight lines in nature” was my father’s regular refrain whenever he felt I was succumbing to “black and white” thinking. By which he meant: don’t expect life, relationships or business to travel along predictable paths.

They will forever surprise and meander.

No wonder then that my father was an ardent admirer of Antonio Gaudi’s architecture. So few straight lines, so many curves.
