Balancing Strength and Sensitivity
Note to self.
On strength and sensitivity.
We all too often laud strength and treat sensitivity as a weakness. But sensitivity is just as great as strength – and you can’t have too much of either of them.
Strength (resilience) and sensitivity (being perceptive) are two limbs of the same body. They work best when they grow in tandem.
Problems arise when one of them far outstrips the other.
So, I mustn’t say “I’m too sensitive.” I should say instead: “I’m not yet strong enough to bear my perceptions with composure.”
Likewise, I mustn’t say: “I’m too strong”. I should say instead: “I’m not yet perceptive enough to use my strength wisely.”
