Start Your Day with a Winning Mindset

Notes to Young Leaders | 4 October 2022

A note to young leaders.

One of the most important lessons I teach when I mentor young leaders is this: The battle is lost or won each day in your morning mind.

It is a law of the universe, as certain as gravity, that we cannot achieve or receive more than we think we are worthy of.

What does your internal dialogue sound like first thing in the morning?

Do you say: “Wow, how blessed am I to live in Australia and have the opportunities I have! I’m part of an amazing team. I am well-armed for today’s challenges and, if I do my best, success will surely come our way.”

Or do you say: “Oh man, I’m sick and tired of the constant crap I need to deal with every day. The incompetence around me is staggering. No matter how hard I try, the problems keep piling up.”

No prizes for guessing which of these two internal dialogues is more likely to produce a winning team and a winning day. And yet, too many leaders self-sabotage by beginning their day with a soliloquy of defeat.

Make sure you begin your day with a winning soliloquy.
